Jerry Falwell is dead and we're all better for it.
That's a weird thing for me to write. I don't think I've ever felt good about someone dropping dead and I certainly hope this doesn't become a habit for me.
But I'm going to make an exception this time. Jerry Falwell hated blacks in America and South Africa. He hated Jews. He hated gays. He hated women. He'd hate you if he knew you.
He forwarded an atavistic cultural and political ideology that has been polluting our country for thirty years. He's had in his pocket the worst of our political world and used them for his nefarious purposes. Instead of using his pulpit to heal, he fed the fires of fear and hate for fun and profit. Big profit. He went after Tinky-Winky, who didn't do a damn thing to him, and he even made a sympathetic figure out of Larry Flynt fer chrissake!
If there's any justice in the world, they're going to dig a big ol' hole in Lynchburg, VA and bury him face down in a sack made of brown polyester.
